Mahyco Founder-Chairman Dr. B.R. Barwale Conferred with the Maxell Lifetime Achievement Award for His Contribution to India’s Agriculture Sector

Padma Bhushan recipient, agriculture visionary and philanthropist, Dr. B.R. Barwale, Founder-Chairman, Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Private Limited (Mahyco), has been honoured with the Maharashtra Corporate Excellence (Maxell) Lifetime Achievement Award 2016, for his outstanding contribution towards the development of the agriculture sector in the country.

The Awards, now in its 5th edition, are conferred by the Maxell Foundation, a non-profit making registered charitable trust, conceived as ‘a movement committed to recognize and reward the architects of change, those who dared to dream big and look beyond the horizon’. Every year, eminent members of the business community and entrepreneurs from the state of Maharashtra are recognised by the Maxell Foundation, under various categories. Dr. Barwale was presented with the Award by distinguished industrialist and Chairman of the Bajaj Group of Companies, Mr. Rahul Bajaj at an event organized on May 7, 2016 at Nehru Centre Auditorium in Worli, Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion, the octogenarian Dr. B.R. Barwale said, “I would like to thank Maxell Foundation for this encouraging recognition of “Lifetime Achievement Award”. I accept this award on behalf of millions of Indian farmers who have made this country self-sufficient in cereal crops with their hard work. I would also like to thank on this occasion my colleagues at Mahyco, and my family, who have helped realise my vision of application of science for solutions to farming challenges, through seeds. On this occasion, I must acknowledge the support and sacrifice of my wife Mrs. Gomati Devi, particularly in the early years of building my dream. Raju Barwale, my son and Usha, my daughter, have also worked hard with me in making Mahyco a pioneer in Indian Seed Industry.”

Chamber of Marathwada Industries & Agriculture honours Dr. BR Barwale for his contribution to the development of the Marathwada region and agriculture sector in the country

Padma Bhushan Dr. Badrinarayan Barwale, Chairman, Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (Mahyco) was honoured by eminent nuclear scientist and Padma Vibhushan Hon. Dr. Anil Kakodkar for his immense contribution towards the development of Marathwada region and agriculture sector in the last 50 years. The event was organized by the Chamber of Marathwada Industries & Agriculture (CMIA) in Aurangabad.

Dr. B. R. Barwale, widely acknowledged as the ‘father of the Indian seed industry’ was bestowed with this award in recognition of his contribution to the growth of the Marathwada region and path breaking innovations in the agriculture sector over the past 50 years that transformed the lives of millions of farmers by increasing the productivity of their farmlands.

Mahyco from the very beginning has strived to contribute to the growth of its home region. It has a state-of-the-art R&D facility based in Jalna. The company has also set up a school, college and leading eye hospital to cater to the needs of this region.

On receiving this award Dr. B R Barwale said, “I am privileged to receive this prestigious award from Dr. Kakodkar. This region has always been very close to my heart and we will continue our efforts in its development. Our focus will always be to develop and provide better quality seeds to our farmers and thereby improve their livelihood.”

ICAR honours Dr. BR Barwale with Excellence Award for his innovative contribution to Indian agriculture

Dr. Badrinarayan Barwale, Chairman, Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (Mahyco), was honoured with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Excellence (ICAR) Award for his innovative and outstanding contribution to the Indian agriculture sector in last fifty years. The award was presented by Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing Industry Shri. Sharad Pawar at a function held at Baramati on January 19, 2014.

ICAR, an apex body for agri-research and education in the country bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award upon Dr. B. R. Barwale, widely acknowledged as the ‘father of the Indian seed industry’, in recognition of his path breaking innovations in the agriculture sector that transformed the lives of millions of farmers. This award was evaluated on various parameters and judged by a distinguished panel of independent jury members.

Dr. Charan Das Mahant, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Food Processing Industry, Shri Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Dr. D.S. Ayyappan, Secretary DARE & Director-General, ICAR also graced the occasion along with other dignitaries from the industry and scientists from national as well as state level.

Mahyco Bags ABLE Award For Outstanding Contribution To Agri-biotech Sector

Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (Mahyco), one of the leading agri-biotech companies in the country was felicitated with an Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Agriculture Sector by the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), the industry body for the biotech sector. Mahyco received this prestigious award under the ‘Bio-Agri’ category, in the presence of key national and international dignitaries on the occasion of ABLE’s tenth anniversary celebration in New Delhi on March 11, 2013.

The award was given to Mahyco based on the last ten years’ performance of the company in the Agri Biotech sector, which was evaluated and judged by members of an independent jury on various parameters.

Since its inception, Mahyco has made significant contributions towards developing improved seeds. It’s strong commitment towards technology development and strict adherence to quality have helped the organization to carve a niche in the Agri-biotech sector. This has also earned the company a reputation as a harbinger in using cutting edge technology in India to meet the diverse needs of farmers to improve their productivity and profitability, and simultaneously be respected globally for its high quality hybrid/open-pollinated seeds.

Over the past 15 years, Mahyco and its promoters have won several awards and honours including first national award for biotech product commercialization and the World Food Prize by the World Food Prize Foundation, USA.
